Well hot is not the word to describe this summer, unbearable is a better choice of words. We have been working on the lodge and grounds this summer trying to get ready for Fall and this years bow hunt. All the feeders have made it through the various wind storms and heavy rains that have blanketed the local area. We are looking at getting a pond made and also starting a controlled shooting area for Pheasant and Quail shooting. If all goes to plan we will be offering upland bird hunts as soon as September. The Lodge continues to take bookings for long term and short term stays and we are looking forward to November when the Wild Addiction’s pro staff and Mr Tim Roller will stay at the lodge for a November deer hunt. They will be filming their hunts for an upcoming episode on Tim’s TV show. Stay tuned and stay safe

Look Alive Decoys scores a double at Abilene Outdoor Adventures! The look alive Decoy once again proves worth more than its weight in gold in the field. We have concluded our hunts for the spring of 2010. We had a 60% success rate this spring with all of the rain and chilly weather. Now we are working on our deer hunts. We have plenty of room so if you are looking to bag a nice Kansas buck give us a call! We also have lodging available for your fishing trip or just a family get away. Remember to check us out on Facebook as well. Good luck and stay safe this summer.

Here is a review from one of our guests that stayed at the lodgeback in March. We have been busy with Turkey hunters this spring but I thought it would better late than never to post Nannette’s review of their stay at the lodge. We are taking bookings throughout the year so if Abilene Kansas is a destination on your bucket list give us a look. Take care and stay safe!!

In searching for a suitable and comfortable place to stay in Abilene, I came across Abilene Outdoor Adventures through the local Chamber of Commerce. I had looked into Bed and Breakfasts and some other lodges, but chose Abilene because of it’s speedy response and impressive website. It was everything I had expected and more. The staff was friendly and accommodating from the first time we made contact through the whole three weeks prior to our arrival. I enjoy the outdoors and photography. Nature and fresh air was plentiful. The kitchen was fully equipped and we, as six, adults, took advantage of cooking huge breakfasts before our day’s adventures. The lodge was immaculate. We played pool in the poolroom. We admired the crystal clear constellations in the night sky which we do not have at home. We listened to warbling wild turkeys in the morning. I would recommend this lodge to anyone who is interested in nature, a family looking for a getaway, and of course hunters, for which wildlife is abundant.

Dick and James Maupin of Colorado Springs Colorado have made Abilene Outdoor Adventures a new springtime destination. The men had four chances at birds but as we all know it does not always work out. They enjoyed good weather and some good food but the turkeys gained the upper hand this year. We look forward to their return trip next year and wish them good luck the rest of the year. Turkey season is quickly coming to close for this year. A few more trips out and then time to get ready for the up coming deer season. Stay safe everyone.

John and Josh Barthel both became turkey hunters virtually over night at Abilene Outdoor Adventures. Josh was a lucky winner of a free Turkey hunt that was awarded at the Great Northwest Sports Show in Minneapolis Mn back in March. And Josh made the most of his time here by bagging this nice Eastern Gobbler on May 8th 2010. They hunted three days here in Kansas and Went home with two turkeys. Josh also known as the golden boy bagged a nice Jake on his second day out. They stayed at the lodge and hunted hard for three days. We look forward to seeing both John and Josh in the future.

Turkey season is now in full swing, after a slow start the birds are starting to move a bit more. We have had three birds taken as of this last week. Brad Morris of Magnus Broadheads harvested a nice Eastern on April 9th using the magnus broadhead system and recorded some nice action on camera. John Afolter of Afton Minnesota also tagged out with his two birds on April 15th and 16th. You can see the birds harvested by clicking on photos here. Deer season will be open before you know it. If harvesting a nice Kansas buck in either units 8,9,14 is of interest to you look us up we will be more than happy to get you in position for that bow kill of a lifetime. The lodge is ready and tags will be awarded soon give us a call.

The Northwest Sports Show held in Minneapolis Minnesota was a tremendous success for Abilene Outdoor Adventures. We broke out our new display booth and made a number of new friends. The guys and gals from Wild Wings of Oneka were great and we look forward to their visit next year. We also gave away six hunt packages five Spring Turkey hunts in and around Abilene Kansas and one Archery Deer hunt. We still have openings available so if you are looking to vacation or hunt in North Central Kansas give us a call. Have a safe and happy summer.

Come visit the Abilene Outdoor Adventures staff at the Kansas travel and tourism booth in Omaha Nebraska the 25th -28th of February. Roland and Dave will be in attendance working along side the Kansas Department of Commerce staff during the show. This cooperative effort is to better represent the State of Kansas and promote travel and tourism for the state. In other news we have received our lodging license from the state and are now taking bookings for any and all activities. Turkey season is fast approaching so if you have any questions do not hesitate to call.

Abilene Outdoor Adventures attended the Denver Sportsman Show January 7th through the 10th. We helped promote both the state of Kansas Travel and Tourism along with Abilene Outdoor Adventures new lodge. We talked to many fine people from the state of Colorado and shared many outdoor oportunities available in the great state of Kansas. The lodge is now complete and we are accepting reservations for the upcoming seasons. In the future we will be traveling to the Omaha Sports show in late February and possibly the Northwest Sports Show in Minneapolis Minnesota in late March. Turkey season is fast approaching so if you are looking to Turkey hunt in Kansas give us a call.

The Kansas Fur Harvestor Rhondy was held October 3rd, 4th and 5th. Abilene Outdoor Adventures made a trip down to Yates Center to visit with some trapping friends. Kirk Miller of Possum Creek Control was there doing what he does best. Educating Kansas Trappers! Kirk knows his stuff when it comes to coyotes and cats! Visit his site if you want to know more. http://possumcreekcontrol.embarqspace.com/ Kirk put a whole lot of time and effort into the show this year and gave away many a door prize to a bunch of Kansas kids. The weather is turning cold early and the Deer are starting to move more frequently during daylight so I will be posting new pictures and hopefully getting a little bow hunting done myself. If you have any questions about Abilene Outdoor Adventures please contact me through the website.
Best of luck this season!
Dave
